3c Test

Situation

A local company in Northamptonshire were looking for an IT partner to migrate them from on premises Exchange and SQL services to cloud based hosting for these services.

They had a single box server running Windows Server 2012 with Exchange 2013 and SQL 2008 R2. They wanted to reduce the load on the single box server by moving the email and database services to the cloud.

The customer also wanted to investigate Disaster Recovery solutions that would allow minimal downtime and working from the cloud.

Approach

We visited and audited the site as part of our free Project Consultation services.

Leveraging Office 365 and Microsoft Azure we outlined a solution that would fit the brief.

The customer accepted this and we installed the following services:

  • Office 365 Business Premium licenses for their email, migrating their entire Exchange 2013 system to the Office 365 system and removing the onsite Exchange services,
  • Microsoft Azure was used to create a Database service in the cloud that we moved their database services to,
  • A Leased Line and VPN tunnel were installed, configured and connected from onsite to Azure, and a secondary Domain Controller was created in the Azure system – allowing seamless communication between the onsite clients and the cloud systems,
  • Microsoft Azure Site Recovery was setup on the remaining on premises server to facilitate a minimal downtime Disaster Recovery solution for the customer – meaning if their on premises server went down, the customer could work off the Azure DR server.

Impact and Advantage

The customer is very happy with the solution, it has allowed them to expand their bespoke programs and database system – allowing them to better manage their own customer base.

Their onsite systems run better with less being done on premises and the customer feel that they have all points covered for disaster recovery and insurance purposes.
